Home oral care

Posted on 1/24/2022 by Dr. Michael Wockenfus
Home oral careOral hygiene comes together with a healthy mouth, if you make small routine improvements this can change your teeth a lot. Ensure that you maintain good dental hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth regularly.

Brushing and flossing

This is something we should always remember. Brushing the teeth helps in cleaning the teeth and the food materials that may be on the surface of the tooth are removed. Flossing removes plaque and tartar that may be in between the teeth. If there is an accumulation of plaque in the mouth the bacteria in the mouth cause tooth cavities and decay. The tartar is more advanced for it is sticky and not easy to remove. Flossing will make you maintain healthy teeth and healthy gums.

Drinking plenty of water

Water is life, therefore we need to drink water regularly to keep our dental health optimum. Water is important for it washes away the food particles that are in between the teeth. By drinking a lot of water and even using a water flosser your teeth will be healthy. The accumulation of food particles and tooth decay will cause your teeth to decay and you will develop dental cavities. Cavities cause sensitivity when they are exposed to hot or cold drinks and foods.

Avoid acidic and sugary foods

Sugary food is in most of our diets. Many of us are not willing to stop taking sugars. Sugars are not good for the teeth. If there is plaque and food particles accumulation it forms bacteria in the mouth. When the bacteria come into contact with sugar it breaks down and forms an acid that is harmful to the teeth The acid begins to erode the enamel and you will get dental cavities leading to tooth decay. The acid from foods like fruits such as lemon, oranges, and pineapples is not to avoid. Instead, take fruits with acids together with other meals. The dentist will guide you on good foods for your teeth
