Complications of a Dental Abscess Are No JokeAn abscessed tooth is the result of a bacterial infection. Specifically, the abscess is a pocket of pus that forms inside your tooth. It can be called also be called a dental abscess. It can cause mild to moderate sensations and can even radiate to your ear or neck. There are different types of abscesses, but if they are left untreated, the complications can lead to life-threatening situations.

Complications You Should be Aware of

Bacterial infections in your mouth should be taken seriously. It is important to call our office if you suspect any type of infection in your mouth. With a dental abscess, there are risks. The abscess could rupture or spread. If it ruptures, it is still important to come into our office. We will assess the situation and check to make sure the infection has not spread to other parts of your body.

Go to the Emergency Room if You Have an Abscess and These Symptoms

The reality is, that a dental abscess can spread to other parts of your body. It can spread to your jaw, head, neck, and brain. If you have a dental abscess and you also have a high fever, swelling in your face, a rapid heart rate, difficulty swallowing or are experiencing confusion you need to seek immediate care. You will need to go to the emergency room as these are signs of a serious infection.
