![]() One of the excuses we hear is that they brush and floss every day and that should take the place of professional cleaning. This is what we tell people who use this excuse. What Does Dental Cleaning DoThe reason that people would ask if they need dental cleaning as long as they brush and floss need to learn all of the things that happen during a professional cleaning. These things include three categories. They are diagnostic, preventative and educational. Diagnostic servicesDuring a dental cleaning we will look for signs of potential problems. This can include oral cancer screening, checking for gum tissue problems and checking the bite for any potential problems. We can also take x-rays to detect any tooth decay. PreventativeEven if you brush, you may still not remove all of the bacteria on the teeth and gums. Dental cleaning can help remove any buildup of plaque or tartar and can reach the spots that you may miss during your regular brushing. We can also apply fluoride to the teeth if needed, use sealants on children's teeth and polish the teeth. All of these can improve your overall oral health. Educational During the dental cleaning, our professionals can also help teach you about different ways to care for your mouth. They can help you learn if you are brushing and flossing properly and can teach you the techniques to take better care of your teeth. It is a time for you to learn about all the things you can do for your oral health besides brushing. You should get a professional dental cleaning twice a year. This is the best way to keep your teeth healthy and happy. Need to schedule an appointment for a cleaning? Contact our office today, we're ready to help! |
