Ceramic Dental Crowns Menasha, WI
Your teeth are the strongest substance in your body. They perform some essential functions and can stand up to a significant amount of use every single day. While strong, however, the teeth can still be faced with serious issues that can compromise their strength and their health. Crowns are a common treatment for restoring your oral health and protecting damaged teeth. Mid Valley Dental can treat damaged teeth with all-ceramic crowns.
Treating Damaged Teeth
When teeth are damaged, it is essential that you seek treatment right away. Even seemingly minor damage should be addressed. Tooth damage can worsen over time. The tooth may crack further or shatter. Bacteria can also enter inside of the tooth, which can cause a painful, and dangerous, tooth infection.
What is a Crown?
A crown is a dental restoration used to treat a damaged tooth. It is essentially a cap for your tooth, resembling its size and shape. The crown is designed to encase the entire visible surface area of the damaged tooth, holding it together to prevent further damage while also protecting it from infections. A crown is also designed to restore strength to the affected tooth so that is can resume normal functionality. Crowns can be made from several different materials, including ceramic.
Why Ceramic?
While crowns can be made from different materials, ceramic is the most popular option. An all ceramic crown provides you with the best aesthetic results. The material can be stained to perfectly match the color of the rest of your teeth. It also reflects light just like natural tooth enamel. These features enable the crown to blend in perfectly with the rest of your surrounding teeth. No one will be able to tell the difference between your real teeth and your crown.
Ceramic crowns are not as strong as metal, but they can withstand most normal daily wear and tear. In addition to their natural appearance, ceramic crowns are perfect for treating damaged teeth at the front of your mouth. Ceramic crowns also do not contain any metals, making them a perfect option for patients with metal allergies or for those who are concerned with using metal materials in their mouths.
What to Expect During Crown Placement
Placing your all ceramic crown typically requires two separate appointments. During your first appointment, we need to prepare the damaged tooth. This process requires the removal of a portion of your tooth enamel so that we can reduce its size. Making the tooth smaller ensures that your crown will fit naturally in with the rest of your teeth. After the tooth has been prepared, we then take an impression.
Your impression is sent to our dental lab, where it is used to design and fabricate your custom ceramic crown. Once the finalized crown is ready, you have your second appointment. During this appointment, your crown is checked for fit and to ensure a natural bite. If everything looks and feels good, the crown is bonded into place on the tooth.
While crowns often require two appointments to make, it may be possible to provide you with an all ceramic crown in a single appointment with CEREC same day crowns. With this technology, we can create your crown right in our office and make any necessary adjustments, while you wait, eliminating the need for a second appointment.
