When To See a Dentist for Wisdom Teeth Removal?

Posted on 10/10/2022 by Dr. Michael Wockenfus
When To See a Dentist for Wisdom Teeth Removal? Most people have four wisdom teeth, the last ones to come in, usually around age 17-25. For some people, their wisdom teeth don't cause any problems. But for others, having wisdom teeth can be painful and difficult. If these teeth are giving pain or other problems, you can have them extracted. We will discuss when to see a dentist for wisdom tooth extraction.

Inflammation of the Gums

There are several reasons you may get your teeth removed. One common reason is inflammation of the gums. If your wisdom teeth are coming in and pushing against your other teeth, it can cause your gums to become inflamed. It can be painful and may make it difficult to eat or drink. Inflammation occurs when the body's immune system tries to fight off an infection. If you have inflammation in your gums, it's essential to see a dentist so they can determine whether or not your wisdom teeth need to be removed.

Teeth Sensitivity

It happens when the enamel that protects your teeth starts to thin out or wear away, exposing the underlying layer of dentin. It can happen when you consume acidic foods or drinks, brush your teeth too hard, or have a gum recession. If you experience any sensitivity in your teeth, it's best to see a dentist so they can determine the cause and provide you with the appropriate treatment. An X-ray will check for any underlying problems. If you have wisdom teeth that are impacted (stuck in your jawbone or gums), you'll likely need to have them removed by a dentist or oral surgeon.

Damaged or Loose Teeth

Teeth get damaged due to many reasons. They can be due to an accident, an underlying medical condition, or even old age. When this happens, seeing a dentist as soon as possible is essential.

Our dentists are experts in wisdom teeth removal and can give you the best advice on when to schedule your appointment. We will consider the position of your wisdom teeth, age, and overall oral health.
