We Do What We Can To Avoid Extractions at All Costs

We Do What We Can To Avoid Extractions at All CostsWhen we are giving you recommendations on how to treat a toothache, we recommend every type of treatment apart from tooth extraction. This is because tooth extraction is always our last option when it comes to treating tooth decay, cavities, and toothaches.

Why We Recommend Other Treatments

There are several reasons why we try to preserve your natural teeth and avoid extraction. First, when your tooth is extracted, you will experience difficulties when eating and chewing food. Missing even one tooth can make you experience problems when eating certain foods. If you don't have a difficult time when chewing, you might still have challenges with digestion. This is because the food will not be properly chewed, making it difficult for your body to break it down into small particles.

Secondly, with a missing tooth, you might have speech difficulties. Getting a tooth extraction can alter how you pronounce words, making it hard for people to understand you. Another reason we don't recommend tooth extraction is super-eruption. When a tooth is missing, the adjacent teeth will try to shift and fill the gap. Super-eruptions commonly occur when there is no tooth below or above another tooth. Consequently, the tooth will shift and try to fill the gap. This movement will result in tooth pushing through the gums, making it difficult for you to bite and chew food.

Some tooth extractions can also lead to bone loss. Normally, your tooth's root provides support and stability to the jaw bone. If a tooth extraction is done and no replacement is provided, the jaw bone will start to deteriorate, causing an irreversible bone loss. If this condition is not treated on time, it can lead to serious dental consequences. Therefore, tooth extractions are always our last resort when providing treatment.
