You Need to Make Sure You Are Always Flossing Properly

You Need to Make Sure You Are Always Flossing ProperlyWhen you talk about a good oral hygiene routine the words most commonly heard are brushing and flossing. These are two things you need to do every day if you want to have good oral health. The problem is that knowing the words is not enough.

You also need to do these things the right way. Many learn how to brush their teeth when they are young, but they do not always learn the proper way to floss. It is a good idea to learn the right technique and to learn how to tell if you are doing it right.

The Importance of Flossing

Flossing is one of the things that many forget or avoid doing. There are plenty of excuses used for not flossing. From forgetting, to not having the time, to noticing blood when flossing, it is possible to avoid this routine with ease. It is also easy to overcome the excuse when you understand how flossing helps maintain good oral health.

Brushing alone does not remove all the food particles that get trapped between the teeth and gums. It also does not get any bacteria in those areas. The best way to do that is through flossing. It will remove those little particles and the bacteria that can lead to plaque and other problems. Not flossing can lead to problems with tooth decay, cavities and gum disease.

Overcoming the Excuses

To make sure you are flossing properly, you need to get over the excuses. The first one is that you don't know how to do it. That is something we can teach you in our office or you can turn to the internet for help. Not having time is an excuse that you need to get over. Make the time. If you notice blood on your floss, you should not panic. The blood can happen when you first start flossing, but as your gums get healthier will stop.

You can avoid the forgetting excuse if you make it part of a regular routine for your oral health.
If you choose to ignore the importance of flossing, your teeth and gums will eventually let you know.

The risks for all sorts of problems goes up when you don't floss. It is something that is easy to change if you want to do it. Call us, we can help!
